John Byrne’s Cold War #1 preview

No, the subject doesn’t refer to JB’s relationship with Marvel or DC…

We actually got advance printer copies of John’s new series, COLD WAR, today, so it seems a good time to show off a bit of the first issue. This is Byrne doing a British secret service (well, former secret service, as you’ll see) agent in a period setting, which has been a blast so far, seeing him handle new characters and a time period he’s not tackled before. The vehicles alone in issue 3 are worth the price of admission.

The variant covers for each issue are all going to be stylized, almost propoganda-style images like the one attached below. Also below is the regular cover and the first four pages of the issue, both b&w and also colored by Ronda Pattison. (The issue is being released as a full variant b&w version as well as the regular full-color issue, too.)

Issue 1 is in stores on October 19.

  1. More rushed artwork by Byrne. A pedestrian story where Byrne tries to show us fans his dull version of James Bond ‘done right’.

Well with the dismal sales on the floppies and the trades (versus the huge success of Daniel Craig as Bond) I guess ‘done right by Byrne’ means all 3 fans on his forum lap it up and thats it.

Poor Tim Oneil – i guess he’ll go to bed wondering what the 7 cardinals contract is about LOL
