YOE BOOKS SCORES A TWOFER!
Under the headline of “The Best Comics from the 2010 MoCCA Art Festival,” the New York Daily News said, “To help sort through the thousands of comics available at the show, here are some must read comic gems the Daily News found…” The newspaper picked a total of only 22 books and Yoe Books had TWO on the list, a distinction unique to Yoe Books, an IDW imprint.
Craig Yoe was proud of the hard cover, full-color “Dan DeCarlo’s Jetta,” which debuted at the show, getting this attention. DeCarlo was a master of the medium, having co-created Josie and the Pussycats, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and set the style of Betty and Veronica. The 1950s Jetta material is rare, highly sought-after, and has never been reprinted in its entirety in full color.
Yoe said that Jetta is the first in the series of the Good Girl Library, that combines classic, sexy comics character reprints with contemporary pin up masters paying visual tributes.
But Yoe was “especially proud” of the Daily News praise for the other title, “Me n’ Me: Yes, We’re Twins!” This is a mini-comic by Yoe’s twin step-daughters, which they had produced just days before the show. Vickie and Lizzie are Fashion Institute of Technology illustration department graduates and Yoe predicts that they “have a bright, wonderful career ahead of them. People love their work! Their ‘Me ‘n Me,’ about the twin experience, sold out!” Yoe said, because of the great response, that “Me and Me” will be developed into a full length graphic novel.
Craig Yoe, an Eisner Award winner, said, “Yoe Books’s primary mission is to present the best in comics history. But I’ve always felt that the new imprint would look for some special, wonderful contemporary material to publish. Who knew I’d find it in my own backyard!”
